Katie Holmes wears a casual look in blue jeans and shirt as she walks through New York’s Soho neighborhood

After back-to-back films demonstrating her multi-tasking skills as a writer, director, producer and lead actress, Katie Holmes seems to be between projects at the moment.

The Toledo-Ohio native made the most of her free time and appeared to be on an errand while checking out the many shops lining downtown Manhattan’s bohemian Soho district.

The former “Dawson’s Creek” star, 44, walked the busy streets in blue jeans, a half-tucked white shirt and black Adidas trainers.

While the temperature had climbed above 60 degrees Fahrenheit for a peak, it began to drop below 50 degrees, which may explain why Holmes wrapped her arms tightly around her stomach to warm up.

To round off her casual ensemble, the actress-turned-director-writer wore stylish black sunglasses and a matching handbag slung over her right shoulder during her stroll.

Holmes has just returned from her visit to France where she attended the Cannes Film Festival to promote mentoring of young women filmmakers in Saudi Arabia.

“It’s important to hear perspectives from around the world, but especially from Saudi Arabia,” she said WWD. “These women are finally getting their freedoms, and this is one of them.”

The main goal of the program is to bring filmmakers from the region to international festivals to give them greater visibility on the world stage, which Holmes says is also vital for people in the West to see and hear.

During the conversation, she opened up about her transition into writing and directing and that it was more of an instinctive move than a grand plan to redefine herself.

“I just felt like it was another step in creativity,” she says. “I’ve never focused so much on the outside.”

This recent shift in recent years has made her something of a quadruple menace, which began with ‘Alone Together’ (2022), a romantic drama she wrote, directed, produced and starred in.

Inspired to tell a story against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Batman Begins actress began writing early in the pandemic about two strangers sharing an Airbnb in New York during lockdown.

Produced by her new production company, Lafayette Picture, she ended up directing the project, which finally had its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival in July 2022.

In addition to Holmes, the cast also includes Jim Sturgess, Derek Luke, Melissa Leo, Zosia Mamet and Becky Ann Baker.

Holmes followed as co-writer, director, producer and star of drama film Rare Objects (2023).

Sharing authorship with Phaedon A. Papadopoulos and Kathleen TessaroIt, the story centers on a young woman trying to rebuild her life when she takes a job at an antique shop. She’s regaining her trust with the kind souls who own the place until those from her traumatic past resurface, they say IMDB.

The cast includes Perva Bedi, Candy Buckley, Alan Cumming, Aerial East, David Alexander Flinn, Olivia Gilliatt and Holmes, among others.

Rare Objects would premiere in April, which likely means Holmes will be on the lookout for her new film production.
