A popular laxative has been recalled amid concerns it was improperly labeled and could potentially be dangerous to children and pregnant women.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and the Therapeutic Goods Administration have issued a product recall for ComforCleanse.

The product, Young Living Essential Oils, claims to be a “highly effective herbal formula that supports normal digestive and colon function.”

However, according to the report, the packaging did not include the “mandatory wording for required label warnings” for the ingredient fennel, also known by its scientific name Foeniculum vulgate.

The warning states that all products with a use-by date of March 29, 2023 or bottles with identification number: “Batch 15500101” should be returned to Young Living for a refund.

Currently, the product is marked as “not available for purchase” in its online store.

The TGA also states that Young Living will reach customers in its database with the recall information and that the products in the warehouse have been segregated and relabeled.

Known for selling essential oils and alternative medicines, Young Living is a multi-marketing marketing company that originated in Utah, United States.

Although customers can purchase the products through their online store, they are known for their “Brand Affiliate” program.

In July 2022, the US Food and Drug Association (FDA) issued a warning to its US arm after discovering that brand partners were making drug claims with their essential oils.

Some Young Living members have said that lemon essential oil has proven “as effective as stone-breaking chanca piedra pills for kidney stones,” and claimed that frankincense essential oil can help with arthritis and asthma.

Regarding the FDA’s warning letter, Young Living said that partners who made these statements violated their “policies and procedures.”

‘Young Living takes FDA complaints very seriously and in the event of a complaint, our Conduct Success Team follows the three-step enforcement approach with brand partners where we educate, warn and – if reasonable warnings are not followed – then we will proceed with account termination’, it says in the statement.
