The lead singer of Grammy-winning rock band Cage The Elephant was arrested Thursday night after police found two loaded guns in his room at the Bowery Hotel on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, DailyMail.com has learned.

Matthew Shultz, 39, has been charged with criminal possession of a firearm.

A hotel worker saw Shultz, a guest, carrying a handgun into a downstairs public restroom on Wednesday night.

Officials responding Thursday morning knocked on the door of Shultz’s hotel room.

He stepped into the hallway and admitted that he had two .45 caliber pistols. He was then asked if he still had the guns and he told the police officers he didn’t know.

This prompted the police to arrest him and take him to the 9th Precinct precinct.

A judge issued a search warrant that allowed police to enter the room, where they discovered two loaded guns, a Sig Sauer and a Smith & Wesson.

He didn’t have a gun license.

Shultz spent the night in the 9th Ward in lower Manhattan.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital on Friday morning for medication and returned to the precinct a few hours later.

Shultz, who is from Nashville, Tennessee, has no criminal record.

He is the musician, songwriter and guitarist for the band that won a Grammy for Best Rock Album in 2016 for Tell Me I’m Pretty and 2019 for Social Cues.
