  • LG said the price and availability of the “immersive” new device has yet to be determined

LG has introduced its first bendable OLED TV with a screen that curves before your eyes at the touch of a button.

The LG Flex LX3 has a 42-inch screen that curves inward when people watch TV or play games on it.

The Flex doubles as a gaming monitor and TV, and can go from completely flat to “spectacularly curved” for a “more immersive” experience, LG says.

Users can bend the screen inward and then flat again simply by pressing a button on an included remote control, even when the display is on.

Alternatively, users can manually change the degree of curvature in five percent increments by pressing a button below the screen.

CURVE RADIUS EXPLAINED

LG Flex has a maximum curvature of 900R, which means it has a 35 inch (90 cm) radius of curvature.

In general, the smaller the curve radius, the curvier the screen.

Imagine a small circle. Part of the line that makes up the circle will be more curvy than a larger circle with a larger radius.

LG Flex has a maximum curvature of 900R, which means a curvature radius of 35 inches (90 cm) – according to LG “the tightest radius on the market today”.

A more curved screen makes for more immersive experiences as it fills your peripheral vision just like something viewed in real life.

According to LG, the Flex’s display is “unlike anything else” and takes game immersion to the “next level”.

But not only for gaming, but also for working on documents and watching TV, just like other monitors.

“Perfect for immersive console, PC and cloud gaming, as well as enjoying live TV broadcasts and content streaming services, LG OLED Flex ushers in a whole new era of screen customization,” said LG.

LG Flex will be available in “most markets”, including the US, by October, a month before the start of the FIFA World Cup in November – but the price has yet to be confirmed.

LG told MailOnline that employees from the company were on hand at IFA to price the Flex.

It has a maximum curvature of 900R, which translates to a 35-inch (90cm) turn radius — which LG says is the “tightest radius on the market right now.”

The Flex has a 42-inch screen, but users can also adjust the size of the screen image based on their individual preferences or the genre of game they’re playing.

For example, role-playing and racing fans will likely want to utilize all 42 inches of the screen, while first-person shooter gamers might prefer a 32-inch or 27-inch image that allows them to see everything that’s going on in full view.

When set to 32 inches or 27 inches, there is a black border around the display that fills the rest of the screen.

In addition, the screen can be tilted up to 10 degrees toward the user or up to 5 degrees away from the user and features a height-adjustable stand, allowing gamers to enjoy “ergonomic comfort” whether seated or reclined in their chair.

Paolo Pescatore, analyst at PP Foresight, who is also present at IFA 2022, told MailOnline: “We’ve had rollable, foldable and now even bendable displays.

‘This eye-catching display takes viewing to a whole new level, providing users with a tailored and immersive experience across all genres.’
