- Lionel Messi’s exit from Paris Saint-Germain this week has been confirmed
- The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner will play his last game for PSG on Saturday
- A move to Saudi Arabia is now the most likely option for the 35-year-old
Lionel Messi’s departure from Paris Saint-Germain has been confirmed and the battle for the seven-time Ballon d’Or signing has really begun.
His departure was confirmed by PSG coach Christophe Galtier at a press conference on Thursday, announcing that Saturday’s clash with Clermont Foot will be Messi’s last game against the French champions.
“Clermont Foot will be Messi’s last game at PSG,” said Galtier. “I’ve had the privilege of coaching the best player in the history of football. It will be Leo’s last game at Parc des Princes.”
Former club Barcelona have been viewed as favorites to sign Messi lately, while Inter Miami has emerged as a possible option. And according to the latest odds from Paddy PowerManchester City, Chelsea and even Newcastle have a chance.
However, from today’s perspective, a move to Saudi Arabia is the most likely. There were indications that the world champions could be close to signing a lucrative deal with Saudi club Al-Hilal.

Paddy Power sees a move to a Saudi Pro League for Messi at odds of 4/5 as the most likely scenario.
Next in the pecking order are Barcelona at 5/4, while Inter Miami are at 5/1. Manchester City, meanwhile, sit at 14/1 with Chelsea at 33/1.
A sentimental return to Newell’s Old Boys, where Messi played during his youth career, is also on the cards at 33/1. As is an almost unthinkable move to Newcastle, who will play in the Champions League next season and have a record of 66/1.
However, Eddie Howe’s side are said to be more likely than Manchester United as the Old Trafford club trail at 125/1.
Last month there were rumors that Messi had been offered a £522million deal by Al-Hilal despite concerns from his wife Antonela Roccuzzo.
Messi’s father Jorge was quick to dismiss reports that a decision had been made about his son’s club for next season.
Taking to social media, Messi’s father said: “There is nothing new at any club for next year.” The decision will never be made before Lionel finishes LaLiga with PSG.
“Once the season is over it will be time to analyze and see what’s there and then make a decision.”
“There are always rumors and many use the name Lionel to gain notoriety but the truth is only one and we can assure that none of them are true.”
“Neither verbally, nor signed, nor agreed, and it won’t be until the end of the season either.”
