“Hello,” Lisa began, captioning the screenshots of her essay on grief. “In honor of National Grief Awareness Day, I wrote an essay on grief that was published today on @people. Thought I’d post it here in the hopes that it would help in some way for anyone who needs to hear all this.’

The screenshots included a touching photo of Lisa Marie sitting next to Benjamin and resting her head on his shoulder.

Elvis Presley’s only child wrote openly about how death is a “part of life, whether we like it or not,” and went on to explain that “grief in no way stops or goes away.”

Lisa Marie added: “Grief is something you have to carry with you for the rest of your life, regardless of what certain people or our culture would have us believe. You “can’t get over it”, you “don’t move on”, period.

In her essay for People, Lisa Marie wrote of the “relentless grief” that plagued her after Benjamin’s death: “Since the age of nine I have dealt with death, grief and loss.

“I’ve had more of it than anyone in my life and somehow I’ve made it this far. But this one, the death of my beautiful, beautiful son?

“The sweetest and most incredible being I’ve ever met, who made me feel so honored to be their mother every day?”

She added: “Who was so like their grandfather on so many levels that they actually scared me?

“Which made me worry about him even more than I naturally would have? no Just no… no no no no…’
