Liverpool must stop conceding first, stresses Tim Howard after Newcastle’s comeback

Liverpool must stop conceding first, insists NBC pundit Tim Howard, after coming from behind to beat Newcastle…while Danny Higginbotham says young stars need to adapt to keep them in the title race

Former Manchester United and Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard has warned Liverpool will have to come from behind in games after his comeback against Newcastle on Wednesday night.

Jurgen Klopp’s side struggled again, securing three points thanks to a 98th-minute winner from Fabio Carvalho.

“I think about the problems they had when they scored in those games, eight of the last nine games,” Howard told NBC.

“Jürgen Klopp has to find a way to prevent that because Liverpool have only lost one of those games. But I’ll tell you what, it’s so difficult to come back after a goal early in the game.

Liverpool came very close to failing to make the comeback after falling early behind in the 38th minute to Alexander Isak’s debut goal. The $71m forward saw a second ruled out for offside.

Roberto Firmino equalized for the hosts before Fabio Carvalho hammered the ball straight in from close range to spark wild celebrations.

Howard’s fellow NBC pundit Danny Higginbotham believes Liverpool’s young stars like Carvalho will need to adapt to keep Liverpool in contention for the Premier League title.

“I think so, but it’s just about these younger players adapting. And what you have is that with good older players around them the younger players will adapt much more quickly and Liverpool have a lot of good older players,” Higginbotham said when asked if Liverpool’s cap was still the title.

Although it’s far too early for the cover photo, the win has moved Liverpool to fifth in the league on eight points.

They will play Everton in the Merseyside Derby on Saturday, which is sure to be an intense affair. More importantly, it could prove to be a great test to see how some of Liverpool’s players react to a more pressurized environment.
