Man has been arrested following the tragic death of a woman at a home in Bendigo, with two young children discovered at the scene

A man has been arrested after a woman was found dead in a home in regional Victoria.

Emergency crews were called to the Kangaroo Flat home near Bendigo just before midnight on Sunday.

A woman was found unresponsive in the house and was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Two elementary school-age children were found unharmed in the home.

A Junortoun man, 44, was arrested a few hours later in Harcourt North following an extensive ground search by Victoria Police assisted by their Air Force unit.

He is currently supporting the police in their investigations.

Homicide investigators and forensic officers remain at the home Monday morning, where a crime scene remains.
