Man United are still hoping to sign Weghorst despite Besiktas refusing to tear up his loan deal

Manchester United are not giving up on signing Wout Weghorst and are still hoping to seal the deal despite Besiktas refusing to end his loan from Burnley… The Dutch striker is keen on the Old Trafford move

  • Man United are in talks with Burnley to sign Weghorst by the end of the season
  • Besiktas only agrees to end the forward’s loan spell in Turkey for the right price
  • They have dismissed suggestions it can be slashed as ‘fictitious’ for £2million.

Manchester United are still hoping to sign Wout Weghorst despite Besiktas refusing to end his loan deal from Burnley.

United are in talks with Burnley to sign Weghorst by the end of the season and the Dutch striker has made it clear he wants to move to Old Trafford.

However, Besiktas will only agree to end the 30-year-old’s loan period in Turkey at the right price, dismissing suggestions it could be cut for £2million as “notional”.

Weghorst signed his first professional contract in 2012 and currently plays for Besiktas

Besiktas has released a statement refuting claims that Wout Weghorst’s (right) loan deal with Burnley can be terminated if Manchester United pay £2million

Weghorst has scored nine goals in 18 games for the Istanbul club, who have an option to buy him for £8.5million in the summer.

Meanwhile, United host Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals at Old Trafford on Tuesday night, with Diogo Dalot insisting winning trophies must become an “obsession” for the club.

United’s last silverware came in 2017 when they won the then EFL Cup and Europa League under Jose Mourinho.

But Dalot insists United must show something for their progress under Erik ten Hag and in that sense the Carabao Cup can be just as important as the Champions League.

“I think it must be an obsession for us to win trophies, win things,” said the Portuguese defender, who confirmed he is in talks for a new long-term deal.

“This club is about winning trophies. It’s about competing and fighting in every trophy we’re in.

“This Carabao Cup is no smaller than a Champions League, than a Europa League. Of course it’s different dimensions, but for us it’s a trophy and we want to win it.”
