Gareth Southgate ‘has told Harry Maguire his place in England is not in jeopardy’ despite Erik ten Hag dropping him from Manchester United.

It’s left Maguire warming up from the bench and facing an uphill battle to reclaim his spot, which is hardly ideal with November’s World Cup fast approaching.
However, according to The Sun, England manager Southgate has already contacted the 29-year-old, telling him his place will not be affected by a lack of playing time for his club.
They report that Southgate believes Maguire has plenty of credit on the bench from his 46 previous England appearances and will be part of his plans for Qatar.
Maguire is likely to be called up by Ten Hag sooner or later as United start their UEFA Europa League season against Real Sociedad on Thursday meaning a more intense schedule.

Earlier, United host Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
The defender is hoping to be there for England when they conclude their UEFA Nations League season with games against Italy in Milan on 23 September and Germany three days later at Wembley.
They open their World Championship match against Iran on November 21st.
Maguire was excellent when Southgate’s England side reached the final of the European Championship last year but his form plummeted alarmingly last season.
