Manchester United’s Donny van de Beek has left the field in tears after suffering a serious knee injury against Bournemouth.
The midfielder, in just his second start of the season in the Premier League, was substituted at the end of the first half on Tuesday night after Marcos Senesi slipped and caught his leg.
Surrounded by medical staff, Van de Beek hobbled away, covering his face to hide his emotions. Manager Erik ten Hag later admitted: “We have to wait 24 hours but it doesn’t look good.”

In the incident, in the 42nd minute of a game United won 3-0, Cherries defender Senesi raced towards the Dutchman for a 50-50 tackle.
However, the Argentina centre-back slipped on the wet surface and his drawn left knee accidentally crashed into Van de Beek.
Social media footage then shows Van de Beek’s right leg collapsing under the tackle in a moment of horror.

Van de Beek covered his face as he left the pitch to hide his emotions – it’s unlucky for the 25-year-old in just his second Premier League start of the season for Erik ten Hag’s side
The former Ajax star, 25, immediately cried out in agony and team-mates and opponents alike quickly realized the seriousness of the injury.
It was just £40m for Van de Beek’s second Premier League start of the season, with just 162 league minutes played in the entire league season to date.
And it now appears that he will be out for the foreseeable future as knee injuries notoriously require long and tedious recovery processes.
Casemiro, Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford were all among the goalscorers for United, who fell a point behind champions Manchester City in the table.
