Manchester United stars Scott McTominay and Anthony Elanga received scathing reviews after their lackluster performances against Charlton on Tuesday night, with fans demanding they be moved on in the transfer market.

United may have pushed aside their League One opponents 3-0 in the Carabao Cup tie at Old Trafford, but fans were clearly unhappy with the efforts of McTominay and Elanga up front.

The Swede led a young United attacking unit against the Addicks, with Erik ten Hag taking the opportunity to make some changes to the side that beat Everton 3-1 on Friday – with skipper Harry Maguire even making a rare start.

But fans were quick to take to Twitter to make it known that they expect a lot more from the 20-year-old, who replaced Anthony Martial at No. 9.

One fan claimed that Elanga’s performances have only deteriorated since his introduction to the first-team, writing: “Elanga has no future at United. He’s been going backwards since he got into the first XI. Offers nothing.’

Another believed the pair were of league quality, adding: “McTominay and Elanga should sign for Stoke, they’re both terrible footballers.”

But a third argued the pair would struggle even in the Premier League, claiming: “McTominay and Elanga are looking awful and below a league standard against a league team? Who would ever guess?’

Forward Elanga seemed at times to struggle for the Red Devils against the League One side, failing to find a shot on target or dribble, fail to make crosses and was caught offside once. It is now no goals in his last 30 appearances for United.

And McTominay didn’t fare much better, with no interceptions, blocks or clearances from defensive midfield, and finished the game with his team’s lowest pass rate (80.7%).

For one fan, the performance against the Addicks was enough to show they were no longer needed by the club – despite earlier reports the club would be sticking with McTominay to maintain strength at depth.

They wrote: “Elanga and McTominay have to find a new club this summer. I’m sorry but it’s the truth!”

And a supporter claimed Tuesday’s opponent could be a good fit for the Scotland midfielder, saying: “Elanga has to go. He’s terrible. McTominay would fit in well with Charlton’s midfield.
