Erik ten Hag has claimed Marcus Rashford showed “the right reaction” after being dropped over Man United’s clash with Wolves.

The England international came on as a half-time substitute in the Premier League affair and shortly afterwards scored the only goal of the game with a good finish.

After the afternoon started on the bench for “internal disciplinary” reasons, ten Hag was quick to praise the United striker’s reaction.

After the game, ten Hag said: “It’s good, after the decision he came in, he was bright, lively, scored a goal.

“That’s the right answer, the right reaction. That, of course, is the end of the matter. Yes, we saw today – it wasn’t an easy game, we had to fight for the points.”

Rashford continued his fine form with a good shot after working cleanly with Bruno Fernandes in the closing moments of the second half at Molineux.

Ten Hag then revealed that Rashford had been dropped before kick-off due to an “internal disciplinary issue” and comparisons were immediately drawn to Garnacho, who did not play during the club’s pre-season summer tour after being late twice for team meetings came.

Rashford confirmed he was dropped for a similar disciplinary infraction as Garnacho after oversleeping and missing one of Ten Hag’s meetings entirely.

“Obviously it’s the rules,” he said. “It’s a mistake that can happen.

“I’m disappointed not to start, but I understand the decision. We’re glad we still managed to win the game, so we can draw a line under it.

The England international followed up his goal in United’s tie with Forest after opening the goal with a well-delivered finish before later earning an assist.

The decision to drop Rashford came amid good form from the England international, who has scored four goals in his last five games.

He marked his return to Manchester United with a stunning solo goal in the Carabao Cup win over Burnley before scoring against Forest.

It was the second time in recent weeks that Rashford was on form despite being on the bench after being ruled out for England despite scoring twice against Wales.
