A parent told 9News that the driver was “completely irresponsible” and that the incident “should never have happened”.
A witness suggested that the SUV had reached speeds of up to 60 km/h at one point along the beach.
The car eventually got stuck in the sand and its occupants tried unsuccessfully to dig the vehicle out.
A girl speaking to reporters on the beach claimed the driver “threw people off” when they confronted her about her behavior.
Photos taken by bystanders showed police showing up after dark and approaching the car.

The driver was asked to take a breathalyzer test but declined and was taken to a nearby hospital for a blood alcohol test.
The driver is understood to have been suspended for a year as a result of the incident.
