McScurry: Rodent is filmed crawling over a chair in front of frightened customers at McDonald’s

A ‘petrified’ McDonald’s lover filmed the moment she spotted a rodent coughing around the next table – prompting her to scream and flee the restaurant as it ‘ran towards her’.

Chloe Thompson was munching her sausage and egg McMuffin at the fast food giant’s Tilbury branch in Essex when she saw the bugs crawling around while Ed Sheeran’s 2017 number one, Galway Girl, played in the background.

Footage of the stunned 18-year-old, last taken earlier this month, shows the pest prowling around the seat and back of the chair as she looks on in shock, saying: “I feel like I’m in a dream.”

Chloe thought the creature was a ‘baby rat’ – although her mum Kelly Mullins admits it could be a mouse.

She claims when she notified staff that they “chased the rat with a trash can,” so the “petrified” teenager screamed and fled the store without finishing her meal.

The administration worker’s “disgusted” mother, Kelly, posted the video to Facebook, where it has garnered more than 118,000 views.

One user explained that watching it made her “sick,” while another said it was “McF**king disgusting.”

The 47-year-old mother says the rodent could have peed all over the restaurant’s tables and confirmed her daughter won’t be visiting McDonald’s again anytime soon, despite it being her “favourite” fast food chain.

McDonald’s confirmed that an environmental health officer visited the restaurant after the “sighting,” as did pest control experts, and both found “no evidence of pest activity.”

Kelly, from Thurrock, Essex, said: “Chloe was petrified. The rodent climbed over all the chairs and tables and obviously when rodents are walking around they pee.

“She sent me the video of the mouse and said, ‘Oh my god, I have to tell them,’ so she went to the counter and told someone.

“One employee just rolled her eyes [at Chloe]and then went and got a trash can and ran around chasing this baby rat.

“When the waitress rolled her eyes it was like they knew it was a problem so why don’t they take care of it? It’s disgusting.

“As they chased after with the trash can, the mouse ran towards Chloe. She just screamed and ran out. She won’t be eating McDonald’s for a while, and it’s her favorite.

“Seeing a rat in a restaurant while you’re eating is disgusting.”

Chloe had been dropped off at McDonald’s by her boyfriend to have breakfast before work and she sent the video to her mother shortly after filming.

Kelly’s Facebook post, simply captioned “Tilbury McDonald’s this morning,” received more than 700 comments and 1,500 shares.

One commented: “The new McScurry. I can’t stop watching it.’

Another said: “Grim! I mean they pee while they run! You are incontinent!’

A third added: “Omg made me sick.”

A McDonald’s spokesman said: “Hygiene and cleanliness are of the utmost importance to us.

“Pest control experts visited the restaurant the same day we were made aware of this sighting. They also did a follow up visit this week and confirmed there is no sign of pest activity anywhere inside.

“The environmental health officer visited us and they too are satisfied that there are absolutely no problems with the restaurant.

“As standard practice, pest control professionals conduct regular routine inspections of the Tilbury Restaurant and surrounding area, which helps the restaurant continue to maintain a food hygiene rating of 5.”
