Ita Buttrose has attacked Meghan Markle, saying she made “provocative statements” to attract attention after leaving the royal family.
Standing outside her old workplace, Studio 10, Channel Ten’s morning programme, the ABC chair voiced her views on the once-working queen.
Markle launched new attacks on the royal family in a bombshell interview with a New York magazine and on her Spotify podcast last month.

Australian media expert Ita Buttrose (pictured) said Meghan and Harry no longer had the royals to fall back on, so they had to “make every interview count”.
“I don’t mean to be rude but she’s just a celebrity,” the Australian media icon told Studio 10 last week.
“There’s nothing wrong with being a celebrity, but she’s one of many.
‘[She and Prince Harry] You don’t have to resort to the royal family [anymore]. So they have to make sure every interview counts.”
“So, because of the other plans she has — you know, the books, the movies, whatever — she wants to make sure she stands out from the crowd. So she makes provocative statements.
“Once she was a princess of the realm. [Now] She goes on with her business of being a celebrity.
“I don’t mean to be rude, but she’s just a celebrity,” Buttrose (pictured, right) told Studio 10 show hosts Sarah Harris and Tristan MacManus (pictured, left).
Buttrose was far less scathing when it came to the Queen, with whom she had spoken during a visit by the monarch to Australia.
“The protocol is that you don’t discuss what you’re talking about with the Queen, so I tend to respect that,” Buttrose told presenters Sarah Harris and Tristan MacManus.
“But I can tell you she was very knowledgeable about Australia, she loves Australia and she is knowledgeable about world affairs that we discussed.”
The comments come after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex opened a new rift in their feud with the royal family last month.
The former Suits actress dropped another round of “truth bombs” against the royals in her new podcast and in a stunning interview with a US magazine.

Markle said she and Prince Harry are “happy” to be leaving the UK and would “disrupt the dynamics of the hierarchy… just by their existence” (pictured, left to right, the Queen, Prince Louis, the Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Charlotte, Prince George and the Duke of Cambridge)
She told publication The Cut that she and Prince Harry were “happy” to be leaving the UK and “disrupting the dynamic of the hierarchy… just by their existence” before stepping down as front-line royals and relocating to North America.
The Duchess of Sussex added she had been compared to South African hero Nelson Mandela and claimed Harry “lost” his father Charles during the ‘Megxit’.
She has also voiced veiled criticism of the family on her new Spotify podcast Archetypes.
Sources in royal circles have hit back at the couple, branding their anti-life rants “delusional” and “tragic”.
They said the couple will continue to rail against the system post-Megxit “as much as they still do” to maintain public, and therefore commercial, interest in their “brand.”
A disgruntled Palace insider told the Sunday Times: “Everyone was hoping they would be financially independent, pursue their philanthropic endeavors and be happy – and that if they went their own way, they would no longer feel the need to go against the system rant like they still do.
“But then her star power requires a connection with the royal family, and the fuel for those flames is family discord.”
Buttrose told Studio 10 about a conversation she had with the Queen – she said the monarch loves Australia and is “very knowledgeable about the country and world affairs”.
