Mel C says performing with Victoria Beckham is her ‘ultimate dream’

Melanie C has admitted getting back on stage with Victoria Beckham is her “ultimate dream” – as fashion designer Posh wished her former Spice Girls bandmates a Happy New Year on Saturday.

The Spice Girls regrouped without Posh for a stadium tour three years ago and although the group – which also includes Mel B, Emma Bunton and Geri Horner – were having an “incredible time”, they would love to tour as a quintet again.

Melanie, 48, said: “We were received so beautifully, we had the most incredible time.

“It was the moment we realized the impact we had on a generation of people. We’re very interested in getting back on stage, we’re discussing that further. It’s just navigating through everyone’s life, work and families.’

When asked if another reunion would include Victoria, she added The Times’ Saturday Review: “That would be the ultimate dream. The door is always open to Victoria, we would love to see her again. We keep our fingers crossed.”

And the Northern Star hitmaker admitted the group would particularly like to perform at the world-famous Glastonbury Festival.

She said: “One day a Spice Girls performance there would be a great thing. We would like to honor this stage.”

It came as Victoria took to Instagram on Saturday to send her best wishes to her former bandmates ahead of the new year.

Sharing a clip from her 1997 film Spice World: The Movie, she wrote, “New Year’s spirit. Kisses @EmmaLeeBunton @TheRealGeriHalliwell @MelanieCMusic @OfficialMelB xx VB.’

Meanwhile, Melanie admitted the sexism the Spice Girls faced in the early days of their career “galvanized” them and they are “very proud” of their girl power message.

She said they knew they had a point to prove and “went out naively as young women” not knowing what they were going to be up against.

The pop star credited the platform the Spice Girls gave members with helping them change things and opening doors for other women.

She added that they are part of a “bigger movement” but the group makes feminism “more palatable to younger audiences.”

It comes after the Spice Girls were red-faced after an unreleased song with an X-rated track was leaked almost 30 years after it was recorded.

The song, titled CU Next Tuesday, was recorded for their debut album Spice and a demo of it was leaked to the internet this week due to an unsolved security breach.

All four members of the band and Victoria are said to have been embarrassed by the leak as the title is a euphemism for a four-letter expletive.

Last year the group released Spice 25 to celebrate the album’s 25th anniversary, featuring unreleased demos and remixes, but CU Next Tuesday didn’t make it.

Mel C has previously been vocal about her dislike of the track, saying, “CU Next Tuesday was never used because it’s a bunch of shit. It would be a huge rip off if Virgin put it on a greatest hits album now.’

A source told The Sun: “The Spice Girls are all at a very different point in their lives now than when this song was first written as a tongue-in-cheek track in the 90’s.

“It’s obviously a bit embarrassing given the shabby title as they wouldn’t use the C-word in their own lives. It’s a bit of a mystery how on earth it came out, but they won’t get into that.

The insider added that the girls hope the song will eventually be forgotten.

They said: “The group have other projects they’re looking forward to in 2023, so they’re focusing on them and hoping that this song – which they never particularly liked – will be forgotten.”

MailOnline contacted Spice Girls representatives for comment.
