Michael Cohen says calls to protest by Manhattan DA are “eerily similar” to Jan. 6 “war cry.”

Donald Trump’s former lawyer said he believes the ex-president hopes to cause a “violent clash” similar to the Jan. 6 riot with recent social media posts about his imminent arrest.

Michael Cohen said Trump’s posts this week were “eerily similar” to the “war cry” he let out during a speech in 2021, which many believe was a veiled order for protesters to Raid the Capitol and disrupt the voting process.

Trump wrote on Truth Social on Saturday morning that he had been leaked information from the Manhattan Attorney’s Office that indicated he would be arrested Tuesday as part of an investigation into hush money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels while he was running for president in the year 2016.

In the post, Trump urged his supporters to “protest, take back our nation!” A statement Cohen told MSNBC was notable for the former president’s decision to include the word “peaceful.”

Trump’s post has already made a splash among his supporters, with some planning to band together to create a “MAGA moat” around his Mar-a-Lago compound and others calling for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis to seek extradition to the New York authorities.

Cohen added it was likely Trump was hoping an arrest could rally his supporters and give a boost to his 2024 presidential campaign.

Cohen, who admitted organizing the $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels and pleaded guilty to violating campaign finance laws in 2018, spoke to MSNBC Saturday after Trump made his post public.

“It’s eerily similar to the battle cry he gave just before the January 6 uprising, you know, including the call for protests in particular,” he said.

“And I agree it would have been smart for Donald to have written ‘peaceful protest’ but he doesn’t want a peaceful protest.”

Trump wrote in capital letters on Saturday that he had received information about his imminent arrest through leaks from the Manhattan Attorney’s office.

“NOW, ILLEGAL LEAKS FROM A CORRUPT & HIGHLY POLITICAL MANHATTAN COUNTY ATTORNEY OFFICE, PERMITTED TO SET NEW RECORDS IN VIOLENT CRIME AND WHICH IS LEADERED FINANCED BY GEORGE SOROS, SHOW THAT NO CRIME CAN BE PROVED AND BASED ON THE OLD AND COMPLETE DISCOVERY (FROM NUMEROUS OTHER PROSECUTORS!) FAR AND FAR THE LEADING REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE & FORMER PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL BE ARRESTED ON TUESDAY NEXT WEEK. PROTEST, TAKE BACK OUR NATION!’ he wrote.

Cohen said it’s doubtful there were any leaks at all, but that Trump was most likely informed of their plans by prosecutors by default.

“Knowing Donald as I do, I see no reason why Donald would have made the statement unless he or his team was contacted by prosecutors and advised appropriately,” he said.

“That’s exactly him, acting on information that he has and not leaking, as he would like to say, through the prosecution,” he said. ‘No leaks from the DA’s office, I can tell you that for sure. It’s all coming from the Trump camp.’

Cohen also said it was likely Trump and his campaign team would attempt to use an arrest as a rallying point for his supporters.

“These fools who represent him, this clown show of lawyers, think this will propel him into the White House through another violent riot,” he said.

“But more importantly for Donald, it’s all about the big grip. He will try to cash in on this action by soliciting donations to protect him, your favorite president, from racist Alvin Bragg and all the, you know, left wings.’

On Saturday night, Trump appeared at the NCAA Wrestling Championships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he raised a defiant fist at the crowd and received a standing ovation.

Manhattan District Attorney Bragg released a memo saying his office would not tolerate intimidation tactics and also reassured his office staff of their safety and claimed that law enforcement was on high alert to investigate any threats.

He did not use Trump’s name, but did mention that the threats were related to an “ongoing investigation by this office.”

“Please know that your safety is our top priority,” Bragg said in the memo, first reported by Politico.

“We will not tolerate attempts to intimidate our office or threaten the rule of law in New York,” he added.
