Crystal Palace, Everton and Southampton are eyeing Championship top scorer Chuba Akpom as they look for extra firepower in January.
Former Arsenal youngster Akpom, 27, has launched himself into the fight for a return to the top flight thanks to his impressive form this season.
Akpom has scored 12 goals in just 19 games and has led Boros’ rapid rise up the league table since new manager Carrick was appointed in October.

Everton boss Frank Lampard (L) and Palace manager Patrick Vieira are keen on Akpom as they chase more goals – while Southampton are also keen
Akpom’s tally for the season includes eight goals in Carrick’s nine games, taking Boro from third from bottom to just two points before the visit to Birmingham today.
Such a goal return would be welcomed by all admirers of Akpom in form.
Palace are currently 11th in the Premier League but are the worst scorer among the top 15 teams in the division with just 17 goals in 16 games.
Everton have scored just 13 times, making them the third-lowest goalscorer in the Premier League.
Akpom is the league’s top scorer, having scored 12 goals in 18 games for Boro
Southampton are currently at rock bottom as a failure to sign a reliable source of goals in the summer is a factor in their struggles this season.
They are also interested in Terem Moffi, top scorer of the French team Lorient with eleven goals.
Akpom joined Boro in 2020 for £2.75million after starting his career at Greek club PAOK Saloniki after leaving Arsenal for good in 2018.
He signed a three-year deal that expires this summer, although Boro has the option to extend it for another 12 months.
