Millie Mackintosh reveals she’s been sober for seven months after giving up alcohol to ease her anxiety

Millie Mackintosh has revealed she is seven months sober after going alcohol free to improve her mental health.

The former Made In Chelsea star, 33, admitted she made the decision to ease her “anxiety levels” as they had gotten “really high”.

During a question and answer session on Instagram on Wednesday, Millie answered, “What made you decide to go alcohol-free?” as well as whether she and husband Hugo Taylor plan on expanding their family in the near future.

She recorded her response and shared: “So I’ve been alcohol-free for seven months.

“And it was a decision I made because I wanted to improve my mental health and in particular my anxiety levels which were very high, especially after the second baby came out of lockdown.

“So I quit drinking in August and honestly there have been so many positive changes.

“Yes, it was difficult at the beginning. I found it difficult in company and at social events because it’s like a habit when you’re used to having a drink. So it felt a little weird and a little awkward, but by the third month I was over it.

“And honestly, the benefits just outweigh everything and it makes it so worth it and I just feel better every day.”

Speaking about her decision last August, she told her followers at the time: “I had a breakthrough in therapy and decided to quit drinking. I didn’t want to admit it, but it’s a big trigger for my anxiety.

“It has an immediate negative impact on my mental health and right now my focus is on feeling good, finding happiness in my life and not trying to escape it,” she wrote.

Also in her Q&A, Millie addressed the prospect of having more children, noting that it wouldn’t be happening “anytime soon.”

Millie is married to former Made In Chelsea star Hugo Taylor and the couple have daughters Sienna, two, and Aurelia, 16 months.

She told followers: “I think it’s very unlikely. If I do, it won’t be any time soon! I love having two girls and am concerned that with another one in the mix I would be too stressed.

Millie, who has been open about suffering from candida, a fungal infection caused by eating yeast, also detailed her personal experience.

In January, she said she’s “focused on improving her gut health” and “avoided foods that contain yeast, gluten, dairy and refined sugar” since the diagnosis.

But she recalled the experience and described the main symptom she faced.

She said: “The main ones were gas.

“I was very bloated, especially after eating, and by the end of the day I looked like I was three months pregnant.

“I would also just get such uncomfortable indigestion. I was also just pretty tired and got loads of bugs from the girls and got really down every time I got sick.

“It took me a while to shake it off and I just felt like my immune system was really struggling.”

The Q&A comes after Millie underwent laser tattoo removal to treat three inkings and gave her followers an inside look at the process.

The reality star was seen sporting reflective sunglasses as she took a seat at the NAAMA Studios clinic in London.

Millie shared a clip to her Instagram Story and explained that it “felt like a tiny hives” as the technician removed a butterfly on her lower back, three stars from her shoulder and another tattoo.

Speaking to the camera, she explained: “Okay, it’s like a tiny sting, I can only feel the cold air sensation, it’s just uncomfortable.

“Then I can feel the tingling through it, like a nettle sting. But it goes away really fast.’

Millie later added, “Since my tattoos are small, it was possible to treat all three areas in one session.

“It was no more painful than laser hair removal and I can come back for my next session in two weeks. I will keep you informed of the results.’

Meanwhile, Hugo proved he and Millie are stronger than ever when he wrote her a sweet Valentine’s Day post last month.

Hugo shared a snap of the couple sharing a kiss as he called her “someone he can’t live without” and noted he’d been “obsessed” since he met as a teenager 20 years ago.

Although paths crossed young, the two spent many years apart after Hugo Millie was unfaithful with her friend and Made In Chelsea co-star Rosie Fortescue.

And to show that all is not forgotten, fans were quick to point out the scandal that led to their split in 2011 in the post’s comments section.

While Millie married rapper Professor Green in 2013, she split a little over two years later and reconciled with Hugo.

Posting the tribute to Millie, Hugo wrote: “Love is pure happiness, obsession, someone you can’t live without. I have felt this way about you since the day we met over 20 years ago. Happy Valentines Day’.
