‘Nathaniel Hackett stole that moment from him’: Ryan Clark devastates Broncos HC for pulling Russell Wilson before missing go-ahead kick in 17-16 loss to Seattle Seahawks on MNF

  • Ryan Clark gutted first-time Denver HC for his decision to kick a late FG
  • Brandon McManus attempted a go-ahead FG from 64 yards and missed a surprise loss to the Seahawks in the MNF’s opening game with 20 seconds left
  • Wilson was outplayed by his former deputy Geno Smith in a big win for Seattle

ESPN analyst Ryan Clark didn’t mince words about Russell Wilson’s return to the Pacific Northwest after the shock loss of Denver.

Wilson and his new team lost to the Seahawks in an exciting 17-16 game at Lumen Field, but had a late winning chance when Brandon McManus’ 64-yard field goal attempt went wide to the left.

Clark was furious with Denver coach Nathaniel Hackett’s decision to remove Wilson and his offense in fourth and fifth at Seattle’s 46-yard line.

“I’m not paying $256 million to kick a 64-yard field goal in fourth and fifth place with a minute left,” he told Scott van Pelt after Monday Night Football on ESPN.

“You go out and get Russell Wilson for the first reason because you ultimately expect to win a championship.

“But you get him for those moments, you get him to be in Seattle – which is where you just got him from – with an opportunity to show you in fourth place why he thinks he’s one of the best in the world .

“If you are Nathaniel Hackett, you must give Russell Wilson this chance.

“Imagine going back to the locker room in Seattle after Russell Wilson got you 4th and 5th, and then putting you in the field goal position to win the game if you don’t play well .

“I think that was the moment when the boys had to go into the dressing room and say, ‘Oh, we have one.

“It’s not Teddy anymore, it’s not Drew anymore, we’ve got a guy who can take us to the promised land.”

“I was surprised that they took Russ with them in the end,” said the 70-year-old after the game.
