Neil Warnock suggests Harry Kane would have a better chance of winning trophies with Saudi-backed Newcastle than at Tottenham… but he claims the England skipper would cost the Magpies a staggering £250million

Neil Warnock has claimed Harry Kane would have more chances of trophies with Newcastle than he currently has with Tottenham.

Kane, 29, has spent his entire career at Spurs, having progressed through their youth academy.

With 265 goals, he is one of the greatest players of all time – one less than Tottenham’s record goalscorer Jimmy Greaves.

Kane has also tied with Wayne Rooney as England’s all-time all-time goalscorer, but despite having won several singles titles over the years, he has never won a Senior Cup.

The forward has come close several times, with Spurs losing in the 2014-15 and 2020-21 Carabao Cup finals, while they were also defeated by Liverpool in the 2018-19 Champions League final.

Similarly, Kane finished second at Euro 2020 with England while missing a crucial penalty in the Three Lions’ quarter-final defeat by France in Qatar last month.

And Warnock believes the 29-year-old, who has repeatedly expressed his desperation to win trophies, would be better suited to achieve that goal with Newcastle, who have changed since their Saudi-backed takeover in October 2021 .

When asked if that would be the case, the retired manager said talkSPORT: ‘Yes, that’s probably correct.’

Warnock argued Newcastle were destined for future success but Kane would cost them £250m

“Especially when the future is just around the corner. I tipped them (Newcastle) in pre-season to finish in the top four but they just stuck it out.

“The defensive situation is as good as I’ve seen against a very good Arsenal team (Newcastle were 0-0 with the Gunners last week).”

Kane almost quit his boyhood club in the summer of 2021 when he expressed his desire to leave Tottenham.

Manchester City made an offer for the striker but it was immediately rejected – and after failing to show up for pre-season and missing his side’s first two games – he finally announced he would remain in north London.

And Warnock referenced that failed move, insisting that if Newcastle were to move for the England skipper it would cost a ridiculous amount of money.

He added: “I always thought Man City could have gotten Kane last year. But look what they did instead – I mean “wow” – Haaland is amazing, isn’t it?

“If Newcastle could get Kane that would be fantastic but that’s going to cost…imagine dealing with Daniel Levy over Harry Kane – that’s going to cost £250million, isn’t it.”

Tottenham secured their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup after beating Portsmouth 1-0 on Saturday thanks to Kane’s goal, while also remaining in the Champions League in their hunt for titles.

Meanwhile, Newcastle meet Leicester City in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night – while Eddie Howe’s side continue their quest for their first major trophy since the FA Cup in 1954/55 – despite having won the league (twice). . and meanwhile the Intertoto Cup.
