New York Giants offensive coordinator Mike Kafka sparks interest in NFL after multiple head coach firings

Both Houston and Carolina requested an interview with Kafka Tuesday after a successful season playing for Big Blue.

On Tuesday, both struggling franchises asked the Giants for permission to assess the validity of his credentials as the future leader of their respective organizations.

Under his and Brian Daboll’s tutelage, Giants quarterback Daniel Jones thrived and saved his career from the New York City trash cans.

The G-Men also possess the fourth-best rushing offense in the league going into Sunday’s wildcard playoff game in Minnesota.

Kafka is just 35 years old and his attacking acumen fits the profile of what is hot in the league now.

The Rams’ Sean McVay, the Eagles’ Nick Sirianni and Sunday’s opponent Kevin O’Connell of the Vikings are all examples of relatively lively offensive minds tasked with bringing a struggling franchise to relevance.

Kafka spent six seasons in the NFL between 2010 and 2015, appearing in four games throughout his career while playing for Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and Minnesota.

He also served time on the rosters of the New England, Jacksonville, Tennessee, and Cincinnati offseason/practice squads.

Northwestern marked the beginning of his coaching career as a research assistant before learning from Andy Reid in various roles from 2017 to 2021 before Daboll pulled him out of his position as quarterbacks coach/passing coordinator at Kansas City.

It remains to be seen whether Houston or Carolina will be as lucky. If it’s their wish, New York seems to feel the Chiefs’ pain.
