During the first half of the Buffalo Bills’ “Thursday Night Football” game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, fans debated an audible sound from quarterback Josh Allen.
With 9:23 left in the first quarter, the Bills’ QB changed the game on the court when he said “JR Smith JR Smith” in reference to the two-time NBA champion.
Allen later used another audible tribute to a better-known player who won NBA titles with Smith by saying “LeBron James.”
However, the NFL published on Prime
The idea that the call was Swift-related stems from the amount of attention the NFL has given the musical star due to her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
Bills quarterback Josh Allen made a call Thursday that caught the attention of NFL fans
A post from the X account “NFL on Prime” sparked debate over whether Allen said JR Smith or Taylor Swift
The debate was almost one-sided, as the TNF account and others were criticized for saying Swift
After heavy criticism from fans, the NFL released a poll on Prime asking users whether they had heard “Taylor Swift” or “JR Smith.” Over 95 percent voted for “JR Smith”.
Fans have previously complained about how much coverage Swift has received from the NFL and media, and stunts like this are likely to increase those feelings among non-Swifties.
“He says clearly: JR Smith,” says several comments under the video.
“He clearly said JR Smith the glazing is crazy,” said another commenter.
“This is getting embarrassing. “He clearly said JR Smith,” said one person, who included a laughing emoji.
“100% JR Smith… They’re doing everything they can to hype up Taylor Swift,” one post read.
“Stop trying so hard, nerds,” another user said.
Fans on social media didn’t hold back and said Allen clearly said JR Smith and not Taylor Swift
One fan took a neutral stance, saying fans would hear what they wanted
“It’s not Taylor Swift.” “Stop putting everything in her head,” another commented.
“You all must be deaf,” one person posted.
“Typical fast NFL drifting,” one user commented.
“Imagine listening to Taylor Swift instead of JR Smith. Sad,” read another.
One person, whose comment seemed to remain neutral, said: “This is interestingly a green needle situation where when you listen to Taylor Swift you listen to Taylor Swift and JR Smith when you listen to JR Smith. “
But some on social media agreed with TNF when they shared that they also listened to Taylor Swift
However, some agreed with TNF, as NFL reporter Don Kleiman even posted, “Josh Allen actually called an audible shout from Taylor Swift…”TAYLOR SWIFT, TAYLOR SWIFT””
Another NFL fan wrote, “Not like Josh Allen and the Bills are dedicating a whole piece to Taylor Swift.” That’s the best thing I’ve seen all day. I wonder how Travis Kelce will react to this…”
“Lol Swifties, even Josh Allen wants to get himself a Taylor Swift!!” “Travis Kelce continues to beat the Bills on and off the field,” another added.
All of Allen’s audibles from Thursday evening have now been listed, including Taylor Swift. “Tonight Josh Allen listened to – “Taylor Swift”, “Lebron James”, “Jamal Adams”, “Rita” and my favorite… “ROAST BEEF” Lol,” they wrote.
