‘Not a chance!’: Manchester United’s Ella Toone rejects Phil Foden’s cheeky attempt to lure her to the Etihad when England’s prodigy offers her a Man City contract during filming!
- England striker Ella Toone began her career at Manchester City’s academy
- She then joined the Manchester Reds when their women’s team was relaunched
- Phil Foden cheekily offered her a contract to return to the Etihad during filming
- Toone saw the funny side, telling the England striker there was “no chance!”
England star Ella Toone thwarted Phil Foden’s cheeky attempt to get her to switch Manchester United to bitter rivals City.
Toone and City striker Foden have teamed up with Football Beyond Borders and JD Sports to open a new community football ground in Moss Side, Manchester, to give young people more opportunities to play football.
But Foden couldn’t resist a cheeky attempt to get Toone to swap the Reds for the Manchester Blues half.

The Manchester City star couldn’t resist offering Toone a deal at Etihad
“There’s a contract you have to sign for City,” Foden joked as he held up a piece of paper. ‘She wants to play for City, doesn’t she? She must!’
Die-hard United fan Toone saw the funny side but was quick to reply: “Not a chance!”
Toone, who launched her own YouTube channel this week, was previously part of City’s academy before joining United when they re-established their women’s side in 2018.
Toone and Foden then feuded as they managed five A-man teams in a contest after the new pitch opened, with Toone’s side claiming a 1–0 victory.

Toone saw the funny side and said there was “no chance” of her leaving her beloved United
Speaking to Sportsmail last year, Toone said: “Obviously I’m a United fan but I knew how much a good team City are and I wanted to advance in my career. I trained every day with top players like Lucy Bronze, Toni Duggan and people I looked up to. Then I was able to play 90 minutes at the weekend and implement everything I had done in training that week.”
When United eventually regrouped, they were keen to recruit players who had previously represented their center of excellence. Toone didn’t need to be asked twice.
“Casey [Stoney] reached out and I bit her hand off as soon as I knew a Manchester United women’s team was forming. I wanted to come home and play for them. It’s all I ever wanted.”
