Nottingham Forest were dismissed in an approach for Montpellier defender Maxime Esteve.
According to L’Equipe, Forest have received a £9.7million bid with add-ons that were rejected by the Ligue 1 team.
Forest splashed heavily in the summer, signing 23 players at a cost of £163.5m – and have already increased that outlay in numbers and money with the addition of Gustavo Scarpa ahead of this window.
Maxime Esteve is on Nottingham Forest’s radar but Montpellier have turned down an offer
Esteve, 20, who has emerged as one of the brightest young defensive talents in France, has a multitude of suitors and Montpellier is determined to keep him at least until the end of the season.
Esteve’s current contract at the Stade de la Mosson, a 6ft 4in centre-back, has two and a half years left.
In addition to Steve Cooper’s team, Serie A players such as Everton and Sassuolo have also rejected approaches.
Forest also remains in talks with Palmeiras for Danilo despite late interest from Monaco.
