Off-duty police officer Held tragically dies while rescuing 14-year-old boy from a rip after being dragged back out to sea shortly after rescuing the teenager

A police officer has tragically drowned after rescuing a teenager caught in a flood at a popular beach on New Year’s Day.

On Sunday afternoon, emergency services were called to Bogola Beach, south of Narooma on the NSW south coast, after a man was reportedly pulled unconscious from the water.

Paramedics began CPR and attempted to revive the man, but he died at the scene.

The man has since been identified as a serving NSW Police Officer who was off duty at the time.

Police were told the 45-year-old man went into the water and successfully rescued the 14-year-old boy who was stuck in a flood before he was caught himself.

The police have initiated investigations.
