Nuggets stars play rock paper scissors with young fans as clash with Celtics delayed

A game delay prompted some Denver Nuggets stars to play a different one as crews worked to fix the edge of a basketball net.

The delay occurred during Denver’s game against the Boston Celtics after a monster dunk by Robert Williams snapped the rim in a different direction.

It caused the rim to become uneven, forcing the officials to stop play and let the teams line up the basket. The game was paused for about 40 minutes to ensure the repairs worked.

During this time, journeyman center DeAndre Jordan spotted a young fan sitting on the baseline holding a sign that read “rock, paper, scissors for shoes.”

Jordan signed and the two played a best two-out-of-three for the player’s kicks – all while people behind them worked the nets.

It wasn’t clear what either person had thrown, but judging by the reaction of security guard Christian Braun, who was watching Jordan, it appears the boy has secured a new pair of shoes.

After play resumed and the rim repaired, the Nuggets sealed their victory over Boston

When play resumed, the Celtics were unable to recover and the Nuggets won 123-111.

Nuggets center Nikola Jokic grabbed another triple-double with 30 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists. Jaylen Brown led the Celtics with 30 points and eight rebounds.

Boston has lost four of its last eight games as its Eastern Conference lead slipped to just a game and a half over second-placed Brooklyn Nets.
