  • Police say they are still investigating the motive behind the tragic shooting
  • The father of three was taken to hospital but was later pronounced dead

It paid tribute to a “wonderful mother” who was shot dead by her ex-husband – who also murdered her three children before turning the gun on himself.

According to police, 28-year-old Ruben Armendariz shot and killed 29-year-old Cassie Flores at her Oklahoma City home on Wednesday night.

He then shot their three children, Hillary, 9, Damaris, 5, and Matis, 2, before shooting himself at around 11 p.m.

Rescue workers rushed to the scene of the accident and found five injured. Armendariz and one of the children were rushed to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

The couple was married but had separated. However, it is unclear if Armendariz was living with his estranged wife and children at the time.

Police are still investigating the motive behind the murder and said in a statement: “This investigation is at a very early stage.”

“Investigators are currently trying to reconstruct the chain of events that led to the massacre.”

Tributes for the mother and her three children piled up, and her family described the situation as a “nightmare.”

Flores’ sister Rocio posted pictures of her loved ones online and wrote, “I can’t believe this.” My babies and my sister. They’re all gone, it feels like a nightmare.

“I didn’t manage to say goodbye to them and I have such guilt in my heart I can’t take it.”

“God is with us and will never leave our side.” “Fly high my babies, fly high my beautiful angels.”

Officers confirmed they had not been called to a domestic disturbance at the home prior to the fatal incident.

Armendariz’s only history appeared to be a traffic violation in 2020, in which he was convicted of driving without a valid license.

Sergeant. Gary Knight added, “They’re still trying to figure out what led to this.”

“Sometimes you just never know.” No one seems to have seen it coming. If so, no one alerted us.”

The Western Heights School District would not confirm which, if any, of the victims attended their schools, but additional counselors are available if needed.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call the Homicide Hotline at 405.297-1200.
