Oklahoma State Assemblyman Dean Davis is arrested for public drunkenness

Oklahoma State Assemblyman Dean Davis was caught on camera telling police they could not arrest him because of his political position while he was handcuffed last week for public intoxication.
Davis, 50, was a Republican drinking with friends at Skinny Slims, a bar in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, when police officers arrived. Police say he and his friends refused to leave the closed bar and drank on the outside terrace.
Bodycam footage shows officers handcuffing a confused Davis while he protested and told them to call their superiors. He told them they were not allowed to arrest him and claimed he was “privileged from arrest during the session of the legislature.”
The cops ignored his remarks and booked him in the county jail.
,You can not stop me!’ he cried.
“I can, and I am right now,” Sgt. Timothy Brewer told him.

Rep. Dean Davis, 50, had been drinking with friends at the Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, bar when police officers arrived

Davis tried to tell officers they could not arrest him while the state legislature was in session
It’s not his first encounter with the law; In 2019 he was arrested for DUI.
Nobody had called the police to the scene of the crime. The two officers involved had driven back to the station after completing a shift when they saw Davis and his friends sitting on the patio.

The 50-year-old can be seen in his mug shot
They approached and told the men that they were violating state law, which prohibits drinking at the bar after 2 a.m. It was 2:11 a.m. when they approached.
Davis insists he wasn’t drunk and says he didn’t do anything wrong.
Speaking before the Legislature last week, he said: “I understand that last night has become a story and that many of my colleagues in the House are being asked to comment or explain the events of last night. I deny any wrongdoing.
“However, I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to this body for creating this unnecessary distraction from the important work of the House. Thank you to the members who allowed me this time. Thank you Mr Speaker.’
Rep. TJ Marti, who was also there but was not arrested, claims Davis did nothing wrong and received a Dr. Pepper was drinking when the police arrived.
‘He didn’t show them his ID. He actually ordered an Uber and was trying to walk away from them when he was arrested.

The cops got to Davis first to tell him he wasn’t allowed to drink on the Skinny Slim’s patio at 2:11 a.m
“They didn’t show the first 30 seconds of the video where they jump out of their cars and yell at everyone.
‘I’d like to see the rest. I’m sure you can probably make that happen.
“They skipped the part where they yelled at a crowd of seven, walked straight up to Dean and didn’t speak to anyone else. You left that whole part out. Dean was arrested for being a legislator while pursuing a Dr. Pepper was drinking,” he told Oklahoma-based media outlet NonDoc.
Marti also denied being drunk.

Davis, with his wife Andrena, insists he did nothing wrong. It is the second time he has been arrested for drunkenness. He was charged with a DUI in 2019
“It wasn’t what was reported. Anyone who can watch the video can see that he is clearly not drunk. Anyone who knows Dean knows he carries eye drops. He uses eye drops all the time. He has allergic conjunctivitis. His eyes are already red. You meet him in the Capitol, look him in the eye.”
Other state officials, including Gov. Kevin Stitt, were not so lenient.
“People sometimes make bad decisions and … they need to be held accountable.
“So I don’t know anything specific about it. But you know, we’re going to be a law-and-order state in Oklahoma, and we hold ourselves to higher standards, especially as public servants,” he said at his Friday news conference.
Democrats say he should be “held accountable” and are demanding the House Speaker intervene.
“I looked at the footage of the arrest. The video was shocking. It is known that this is not the first time that the MP has been arrested for drunkenness and tried to use his position as an elected official to avoid consequences.
“It appears he needs to seek help for substance abuse. And I sincerely hope he does,” Rep. Cyndi Munson told Oklahoma’s News4.
