On the first day in my new role, I got stuck in the toilet at work – my colleagues had to kick down the door to save me

A hilarious video shows a woman stuck in the toilet at her workplace for 30 minutes on her first day at work.

For Lola Bridger, 23, disaster struck on an otherwise great first day in her new role as an administrative assistant in London.

At the end of the day she made what she thought was a quick trip to the toilet, but was mortified when the door jammed and it was locked from the inside.

Lola was trapped for half an hour before she was finally freed by hero staff who kicked down the door to save her.

After she posted a TikTok video filmed before her release, people joked that Lola will forever be known as “the employee who got stuck in the toilet.”

Lola said: “I got a new job up in London as an administrative assistant, wanted to go home for the day and went to the toilet.”

“The door closed normally, although I noticed it was a little stiff, but when I closed it it seemed fine.”

“I tried to open it but it didn’t work at all. The lock remained permanently stuck in the locked position, so its position in the door frame didn’t change no matter how many times I unlocked and locked it.

“I was stuck for 30 minutes, luckily I had my phone so I messaged the workgroup chat which I was literally added to just moments before.”

In a video posted to TikTok, Lola moans, “It’s my first day,” before attempting to hold down the toilet door handle and escape the stall.

Then she tried tirelessly to put all her weight against the wall to force the door open.

The next scene showed her reorienting her phone by placing it on the toilet and showing her trying to force the door open again while pulling on the handle.

After several more attempts, Lola turned to the camera and squatted on the floor before letting out a defeated sigh of frustration.

The debacle continued as the video appeared to hear laughter from an unknown woman saying, “Turn it the other way around.”

Lola stood upright on the toilet seat and shouted back, “Don’t laugh, I’m claustrophobic!”

‘Oh no. “It’s actually stuck, what a first day,” the woman replied. The couple then laughed at their bizarre moment together.

The colleague may have been Lola’s saving grace when she later called the maintenance team to help.

“One of the ladies I work with came down and tried to open it from the outside,” Lola explained.

“And then when she knew there was nothing we could do, she called in the maintenance team.

“They tried everything, even getting those magnetic things to lift the door up, but that didn’t work either, so the last resort was to stomp the door down.”

Lola said things came to a head when she started feeling “claustrophobic” as her body began to heat up.

“I’m claustrophobic and I was getting hot and sweating,” she said. “Plus, my friends laughed at me telling them I was stuck.

“So I thought of filming it to keep myself busy and entertain my friends.”

“Then after I was rescued I went straight to the pub to have a big wine because it was all a bit too much for me.”

“I was a little embarrassed, but it wasn’t my fault, so I looked at the funny side of things.”

There was no sympathy for her ordeal as people joked that she would forever be known as “the employee who got stuck in the toilet”.

“They sent an email to work in the morning saying that the new starter Lola got stuck in the toilet yesterday and the door needed to be removed – which was even more embarrassing!”

In the video, Lola can be heard joking: “At least everyone knows my name now, right, that idiot who got stuck in the toilet?”

Eventually two men break down the door by crashing into it before the lock actually breaks and Lola is freed half an hour later.

The clip has since received over 450,000 likes and more than 3,800 comments from users embarrassed by Lola’s bad luck.

One person reported a similar experience and wrote, “You shouldn’t be called a toilet maid.” On my first day, I tripped on an inch-high step, hit my head on a glass door, and suffered a concussion.

Another joked: “The fact that you will now be known as the employee who got stuck in the toilet.”

“I would have called the office and cried my eyes out,” chimed in another.

“Who’s laughing now at our American toilets that have a gap big enough to crawl under the door,” asked a fourth.

Meanwhile, others said, “I need to go home.” I’ll try again another day.
