A North Carolina pastor who was pronounced brain dead by his doctors somehow began showing signs of life after being shown videos of his children just minutes before he was scheduled for organ harvesting.

Ryan Marlow, 37, was suffering from listeria – an infection caused by bacteria – and spent two weeks in a local hospital.

On August 27, his doctors pronounced him clinically dead, according to Ryan’s wife Megan. His doctors told her his illness had caused brain swelling and he had suffered “neurological death.”

Marlow was placed on life support specifically to have his organs removed and find potential matches since he was listed as an organ donor.

Three days later, on August 30, the family went to the hospital to say goodbye. However, when Megan arrived at the hospital, her niece said Ryan’s feet inexplicably started moving when he was shown videos of his children.

Megan, who chronicled her husband’s illness on Facebook livestreams that drew thousands of views, said in a video that her “heart couldn’t take it”.

A subsequent CT scan showed signs of brain activity and Megan said her husband did not die because the doctors made a mistake.

Noting how close it was, Megan said, “The team was literally waiting there to take him … and I said to the nurse, ‘Stop everything right now.’

Marlow said that while her husband was not dead, he still sustained a traumatic injury to his brainstem and was in a coma in critical condition.

But she clarified, “He’s not brain dead, my friends. God kept him here. He’s supposed to be dead, he’s supposed to be at the funeral home right now, according to these doctors.’

Marlow says her husband has shown encouraging signs, including an increasing heart rate and occasional movements.

Her husband is both a Baptist pastor and a piano technician who owns his own business.

Currently, Marlow is trying to move her husband to a new hospital, but the move has stalled.
