Patti Newton says she’s “found a new normal” a year after losing her husband Bert as she shared intimate details about their marriage

Patti Newton has spoken candidly about her new life after the death of her husband, Bert Newton, who lived for almost half a century.

The wife of the late entertainment legend, who died of health complications in October 2021 at the age of 83, told New Idea on Monday she had “found a new normal”.

“When I lost Bert, I didn’t know if I would ever be a happy person again,” Patti admitted.

“But I am because I convinced myself that whatever I do, he’s with me, he’s in my heart and he’s a part of me.”

She said her late husband, Bert, “would want me to still be happy and get on with my life.”

“It’s the best thing to do in my opinion, and you know what? I think we’ve found a new normal and I feel very fortunate.”

He was hospitalized in March this year and had leg surgery in May. He needed surgery after his toe became infected before Christmas.

The infection was “linked to his diabetes” and threatened his life. Doctors told him the operation was a “decision of life and death.”

Doctors told Bert that if he kept the leg he would only have “months to live” rather than years if he chose to have it amputated.
