Relations with China were established in 1972 by former Labor Prime Minister Gough Whitlam.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese met with President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia last November to ease tensions with Australia’s largest trading partner.

Secretary of State Penny Wong will fly to China this week to open a dialogue
It was announced on Monday that Ms Wong was scheduled to fly to China.
The foreign minister is expected to arrive in the country on Tuesday.
