Ederson made Pep Guardiola’s heart beat a little faster with a daring Cruyff turn in Manchester City’s Champions League clash with Crvena Zvezda.

The City coach looked dissatisfied as he saw his Brazilian goalkeeper attempt the risky move under pressure from an attacker in his own penalty area.

At that time the score was 1-1, with Julian Alvarez bringing the hosts back to level.

While Guardiola is known for encouraging his players to take risks in possession, Ederson’s antics have left him sweating in the past as he is sometimes too cool on the ball – to a dangerous degree.

Against Liverpool in April 2022, fans reacted with disbelief when he played his way out of trouble on the goal line and Diogo Jota brought him down after a poor touch with the ball.

Ultimately, Ederson’s brave behavior didn’t matter for the treble winners as they came from behind to beat Crvena Zvezda 3-1 thanks to a second-half brace from Julian Alvarez and a goal from Rodri.

The Serbian champions, who remained unbeaten in the league last season, took a surprise lead just before half-time when Osman Bukari shot the ball into the goal.

However, City kept their cool to close the gap and collect three points on their return to the competition they won last season.

Elsewhere in their group, RB Leipzig secured a 3-1 win at Swiss champions BSC Young Boys.

City’s next European Cup appearance will be against the German team in early October.

It’s a repeat of last season’s round of 16, when City won 8-1 on aggregate and Erling Haaland scored five goals in a 7-0 win at the Etihad Stadium.
