Met Police have joined the hunt for a missing aristocrat and her baby daughter after she and her partner were spotted outside East Ham Station in east London.

Constance Marten and Mark Gordon disappeared after the car they were traveling in broke down near Bolton last Thursday.

They were walking with their little boy and have since gone missing despite an extensive police search.

Ms Marten, 35, comes from an aristocratic landowning family in Dorset, with “connections to the royal family”.

She is the granddaughter of Mary Anna Marten, whose godmother was the late Queen Mother. The family used to own the Crichel estate in Dorset.

Ms. Marten’s great-grandfather was Captain Napier Sturt, the third and last Baron Alington.

Her father, Napier Marten, was a page to Queen Elizabeth before abandoning his £115million family fortune and moving to Australia.

It is understood that she has not been in contact with her family for some time.

Police previously raided every hotel and B&B in Colchester after the mother and her newborn baby went missing.

The family were spotted in town earlier this month but it is believed Ms Marten was captured on CCTV after exiting her car.

The car the couple were in had been bought six days before they disappeared.

Information from taxi drivers suggests the couple paid cash to travel first to Liverpool and then to Essex.

They later stayed at a hotel under false names. They were spotted in Harwich Port in Essex around 9am last Saturday.

Essex Police said the trio caught a taxi from Harwich to East Ham railway station in Newham later that day.

Police said they were concerned that neither Ms Marten nor her baby had been examined by medical professionals since she was born.

Police statements describe Mr Gordon as dressed in dark, while Ms Marten had a Southern accent and wore a burgundy coat. The baby is swaddled.

Met Police Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford, who is leading the inquiry, said: “It has now been more than a week since Constance and Mark’s car broke down on the M61 and we have growing concerns, not just for their welfare but also about the well-being of their newborn child.

“Being away for a week must be exhausting for new parents and a newborn baby.

“Constance and Mark, I appeal directly to you, please consider the health and well-being of your baby and get in touch with us so we can make sure your child is medically well and there are no underlying problems .

“Please do this for your child. You couldn’t forgive yourself if they go bad. All we want to do is help you and your baby.”
