Piers Morgan admits he’s “never been happier” after withdrawing Mikel Arteta’s claims

Piers Morgan admits he’s “never been happier” after withdrawing earlier calls to sack Mikel Arteta as Arsenal manager with the Gunners at the top of the Premier League and headed for silverware
- Piers Morgan has admitted calling for Mikel Arteta’s sacking was wrong
- Morgan demanded that Arteta be removed after last season’s 3-0 defeat by Spurs
- But has retracted his claim, insisting the Spaniard is the right man
- Arsenal currently maintain a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League
Piers Morgan has been made to eat his own words after previously calling for Mikel Arteta’s sacking as Arsenal manager last season.
The club’s dominance so far this season has seen Arsenal cement their place as Premier League leaders ahead of Sunday’s north London derby and Morgan admits he’s “never been happier,” wrongly admitting to have.
Morgan – an outspoken Arsenal fan – previously claimed the Gunners boss should only be sacked in May last year after Arsenal’s 3-0 humiliation at their arch-rivals Spurs.
At the time, Arteta had just signed a new three-year deal with the club, with Morgan describing the contract extension as “a reward for abject failure”.

Less than a year later, the Spaniard has revolutionized the club, with Arsenal aiming for the Premier League title and still competing in the Europa League and FA Cup.
Morgan has revealed he is like all over-emotional football fans and writing in The Sun he admitted he was “completely wrong” about Arteta, saying: “At first I was completely wrong about Arteta. What is more gratifying is that I was also completely wrong about Spurs and Conte.
“And as we head into another derby in north London this Sunday, I’m happy to admit I’ve never been happier about making myself predictive.

“Arsenal’s transformation from middle-class midfield to a really competitive team again was breathtaking to watch,” he added.
“And it’s all thanks to Arteta, who would have been sent away abruptly eight months ago if I had my way.
“The Spaniard has shown he definitely has what it takes and we’ve seen his progress firsthand on Amazon’s All or Nothing documentary series about the club,” Morgan said.
The 40-year-old ex-Arsenal and Everton midfielder has guided his side of young superstars to a five-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

The addition of summer title winners Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko seems to have given the squad a winning identity, while Arteta has undoubtedly improved as a manager.
Morgan’s admission of error says something about Arsenal fans’ belief in this squad. Should City lose to Manchester United on Saturday, the Gunners could find themselves at the top of the Premier League by a more than healthy nine points.
