The incident happened at about 1:20 this morning.
The main Sainsbury’s Altrincham supermarket is closed today following an attempted raid in the early hours of this morning.
The entire Lloyd Street store has been sealed off following the serious incident which occurred at around 1.20am.
Man arrested in connection with Sainsbury’s raid
Witnesses reported seeing a number of youths in the car park at the time, with video footage showing a purple Nissan X-Trail driving into the main entrance, colliding with a number of bollards and other obstacles in the process.
The damaged Nissan was still in the car park this morning, with visible damage to the side and rear, with the side door open.
We understand there may also be flooding damage inside the store as the sprinkler system was activated following the incident.

The incident prompted a large police response this morning, including the police helicopter.
The entire car park remains cordoned off today, with the supermarket likely to remain closed all day while police and forensic experts investigate.
