Police shoot dead an unarmed woman wearing an Islamic veil and “threatening to blow herself up while screaming Allahu Akbar” in the Paris subway.

Police shot and killed an unarmed woman in a Paris subway station who was wearing an Islamic veil and “threatening to blow herself up while screaming Allahu Akbar.”
The unnamed victim was hit by at least one bullet in the middle of rush hour at the Bibliothèque François-Miterrand metro station in Paris today.
After passengers on a suburban train alerted police, officers managed to “isolate” the woman at the train station on the capital’s southern bank, leading to a standoff.
The woman was shot about 50 minutes after armed police arrived at the station. Police said officers opened fire after she failed to respond to their warnings.
She was in critical condition.

Police shot and killed an unarmed woman in a Paris subway station who was wearing an Islamic veil and “threatening to blow herself up while screaming Allahu Akbar.”
“According to police, she made threats and advocated terrorism,” said an investigating source.
Armed officers arrived at the station shortly after 8:30 a.m. and the woman – who was wearing an Islamic veil – “threatened to blow herself up,” the source said.
She is also said to have shouted “Allahu akbar” – Arabic for “God is the greatest”.
“Fearing for their safety, police opened fire at around 9:20am. She was subsequently injured in the stomach and evacuated immediately,” the source said.
Witnesses to the incident said the woman was fully veiled.
Tuesday’s incident prompted the launch of the Vigipirate anti-terror plan. The station was closed, soldiers surrounded the area and civilians were evacuated.
The woman was initially spotted at Villeneuve-le-Roi RER station, where she “made worrying comments.”
The police were waiting for them in Paris and “when a police officer refused to obey officers’ orders and threatened to blow himself up, he used his firearm at one point,” the prosecution source said.
He confirmed that the suspect’s condition in hospital was “critical”.

A spokesman for the Paris prosecutor’s office said that “two investigations have been opened after a woman was shot and arrested on the RER line C.”
He said she was “reported for making death threats after boarding a train in a suburb of Val-de-Marne.”
An investigation was directed against the woman for “apologies for terrorism, death threats and attempts at intimidation.”
The second investigation was also initiated for “intentional use of force with a weapon by a person in high authority” – in this case a police officer.

France has been on “attack alert” since October 13, when a teacher was stabbed to death by an Islamist former student in the northern city of Arras.
