Mason Mount has been ruled out of Chelsea’s tie with Manchester City – before Raheem Sterling limped off within five minutes and Christian Pulisic left after 21 minutes as their injury crisis continues.
Chelsea currently have seven senior players injured, with key midfielder Mount on the touchline alongside defenders Reece James, Wesley Fofana and Ben Chilwell, as well as Edouard Mendy, N’Golo Kante and Armando Broja.
Manager Graham Potter lamented the club’s injury crisis ahead of the City clash at Stamford Bridge on Thursday night – before Sterling was substituted early on with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, followed by Pulisic.

He said: “He had a kick in training yesterday (Wednesday). It never rains, but it pours, as they say. Happy New Year.
“Stability helps you improve. From the last game in Bournemouth we lost (Reece) James and Mount from the starting XI. That’s the challenge we’ve taken on since we’ve been here. It’s an opportunity for other players. We look forward to that.
“It’s just the life you have as a football manager. This affects your consistency. It would be nice to use 11 players for each game. But if you play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday, that’s not going to happen. You have to adapt.”
