In his controversial autobiography, Spare, Prince Harry revealed that by the time he was 36, he would be “rolling a joint” at night and smoking alone.
The Duke of Sussex, 38, wrote that he smoked marijuana while he and his family stayed at the home of US actor Tyler Perry in Los Angeles in 2020 after leaving Canada.
He wrote: “Late at night when everyone was asleep I walked around the house checking the doors and windows.
“Then I would sit on the balcony or the edge of the garden and roll a joint.
“The house looked down on a valley, over a hill full of frogs.
“I would listen to her late night song, smell the fragrant air.”
Cannabis was legalized for recreational use in California in 2016.

Tyler Perry revealed in the latest episode of the Prince Harry and Meghan Markle docuseries that the couple “had no plan… they just wanted to be free.”
The American actor and filmmaker, 53, helped the Duke and Duchess of Sussex move to the US and offered them his $18 million Beverly Hills home as their personal residence.
He says in their Netflix documentary, “They just wanted to be free. They wanted to be free, love and be happy. You didn’t… you didn’t have a plan. Everyone says, “Oh, there it is…” There was no plan.”
In his memoir, Harry also reflects on how, in his Eton days, he shared a “spliff” with friends in “a tiny upstairs bathroom where we implemented a surprisingly thoughtful, orderly assembly line.”
He writes in the book, “I knew that was bad behavior. I knew it was wrong. My buddies knew it too. We’ve often talked while stoned about how stupid we are to waste an Eton education.’
Elsewhere in the book, the 38-year-old royal also confessed to using cocaine, ketamine and magic mushrooms, eventually hallucinating that a trash can was talking to him.
Prince Harry credited the use of psychedelic drugs with helping him deal with the “sorrow” and “trauma” he felt following the tragic death of his mother, Princess Diana.
He said that as he got older, using psychedelics ultimately “eliminated the idea” that he had to be sad to prove he “missed” his mother.

The Duke of Sussex also describes being dragged into the office of an unnamed member of the royal household during his grandmother the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebrations in 2002 after a journalist asked the palace about his drug use habits.
He revealed how he was offered a string of cocaine during a hunting weekend.
Harry admits he lied to royal household staff during his interrogation, saying doing cocaine “wasn’t fun” and did it in part to be different and because he was a “seventeen-year-old who was willing trying almost anything that would upset the established order’.
He wrote: “It wasn’t a lot of fun and didn’t make me terribly happy like the others seemed, but it made me feel different and that was my main goal. Feel. Be different.’
