The Duke of Sussex’s second thoughts may have come after he was told by the royal family that there would be “no going back” if it was published while the Queen was still alive, sources at the book’s publisher speculated.
Following his visit to the UK in June last year with his wife Meghan, the Penguin Random House team working on Spare were reportedly told the prince had “pulled it” and “he doesn’t want to do it”.

Although the book was “finished,” the Duke had “second thoughts” after seeing his grandmother, a US source told The Times.
The source told the newspaper that it was a “dark day” for the team after working on Spare “in top secret” because they believed it would be “one of the greatest and most historic books” they have in their career would publish.
The Penguin Random House team was “devastated” after the news, which came with Meghan two weeks after his visit to London.
While an official reason was never given, it was rumored with the publisher that Harry had been given an “ultimatum” not to publish while his grandmother was alive.
But “that all changed with the death of the monarch in September,” the source reportedly said.

They also claimed that the way the text had to be translated from American to British English was “extraordinary” – and they had to go through the whole book “to make it sound that way [Prince Harry] was actually English”.
It was reported that the original draft used the word “awesome” to describe “everything” and used other Americanisms not typically used by a member of the royal family.
Spare – ghostwritten by JR Moehringer – was praised by the Time source as “well-written … heartfelt and compelling” – and more than the “repetitive and one-dimensional” Netflix documentaries Harry & Megan.
The memoir, which begins with an account of the funeral of his mother Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997, aims to provide “historical context” for the Duke’s feelings towards his family.
Prince Harry feels he “grew up in a closed and dysfunctional facility” and blames her – at least in part – for his mother’s death, the source reportedly said.
During a Zoom call, an executive’s young children reportedly walked by the screen, making Harry “angry” – and he demanded that the editor be taken out of the project as he is “all about control” as ” he feels like he never had it”. ‘.

Although Spare has not yet been released, he has already caused controversy after PR experts warned Harry’s “truth bombs” that revealed he had taken cocaine and killed 25 Taliban militants in Afghanistan, with dire consequences for Meghan’s political hopes could.

The Duke of Sussex writes in his bombastic memoir Spare that he also wanted the investigation into the Princess of Wales’ fatal accident to be reopened.
Harry, then 13 and living in Balmoral, learned his mother died in a car accident and admitted he wondered if the incident was a “trick” by his late mother.
“Her life was miserable, she was followed, harassed, lied to, lied to. So she staged an accident as a distraction and ran away,” Harry wrote.
