PSV Eindhoven ‘have NO intentions’ to sell star-man Cody Gakpo at bat to Southampton and Leeds on Deadline Day… with bosses ‘interested in tying wingers to a lucrative new contract’.
Leeds and Southampton’s hopes of a late Cody Gakpo crash are reportedly all but ended as PSV Eindhoven decide to keep their star.
After Manchester United cooled their interest in the Dutch winger after acquiring Antony from Ajax for £85.5million, Leeds and Southampton emerged as two alternative suitors.
But The Athletic report that PSV have now decided to keep Gakpo this summer and they are determined to get him to sign a lucrative new contract with the club.
Cody Gakpo will reportedly stay at PSV Eindhoven this summer despite English interest
The PSV winger has attracted the attention of a number of clubs including Southampton and Leeds
Dutch journalist added Rik Elfrink Gakpo was about to board a flight to Leeds-Bradford Airport on Thursday morning with six relatives and Leeds director Victor Orta.
Orta was spotted in Holland trying to negotiate a deal but things appear to have stalled and a “special twist” Elfrink details saw all flight details deleted with the alleged move.
Gakpo’s stocks soared last season when he racked up an incredible 12 assists. He already has three goals in four games this season.
PSV bosses are reportedly looking to persuade Gakpo to land a ‘lucrative new deal’ in Holland
Despite being just 23, the Netherlands international has already scored 43 goals and won the Eredivisie in 146 games for PSV.
Speaking over the weekend, Gakpo appeared to be keeping his options open when it comes to his future.
“It’s like a puzzle, so over the next few days I’ll see which puzzle fits best,” he said.
“It would certainly not be bad for me to stay at PSV. We will see.’
Gakpo has started the season brilliantly and already has seven goals and six assists from nine games.
