The PUBG Birthday Chickens celebrate the one year anniversary of PUBG Mobile.
PUBG Mobile is the mobile adaptation of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. PUBG Mobile was first released in China in February 2018 as PUBG: Exhilarating Battlefield and was developed by Lightspeed & Quantam Studio, an internal division of Tencent Games. It was fully released internationally on March 19, 2018.
PUBG Mobile largely retains the same core gameplay as its originator, with many players landing on a server and fighting with gear looted from the area or from other players. The goal is to be the last surviving player, after which he is granted the memetic title “Winner Winner Chicken Dinner”.
The chicken has become a common symbol of victory in PUBG fandom and is therefore the symbol chosen to represent a special token-based currency that is part of the Anniversary Update.
The PUBG Birthday Chicken can be found in the Birthday Crates, the limited-time crates available for purchase that were part of the Anniversary Update. The crates contain a Birthday Chicken and possibly the regular game currencies BP and Silver. The Birthday Chickens themselves can be exchanged for event rewards, with one per Birthday Chest.
Included as event-exclusive currency in timed event loot boxes, Birthday Chickens commemorate the Prestige Points used in League of Legends, which is also developed and published by Tencent Games, Riot Games.
The response from the community has been lukewarm at best.
