It seems like LA Rams head coach Sean McVay’s son Jordan knew to listen to his father even before he was born.

Before the Rams hosted the Pittsburgh Stealers at home on Sunday, McVay explained that his then-unborn son “knew better than to come during a game” since his model wife Veronika Khonym was expected to go into labor “any day.”

McVay vowed to resign from coaching if Khonym gave birth on game day, but kept his fingers crossed that his son would be born on another day of the week.

McVay’s wishes were granted. He and Khonym welcomed their firstborn on Tuesday, so McVay could be there on Sunday when the Rams travel to Dallas.

“LA Rams Transactions: Delivery of Jordan John McVay,” the Rams Posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.

“So he’s here, he’s healthy, he’s doing well. And what a blessing it is,” McVay said Wednesday via ESPN.

“Everyone kind of tells you what to expect, and it might not even be as good as everyone says,” McVay said. “And they definitely talked about what a special moment it was.” It’s just amazing how well my wife handled it and what a stud she was throughout the whole process and even yesterday. “The people have been great about the nurses and doctors and their help.”

McVay gave Jordan the middle name John after his grandfather, former San Francisco 49ers manager John McVay. McVay emphasized how his grandfather shaped his faith and had a great relationship with his wife.

“I come from a family of faith, I’m a man of faith,” McVay said. “The influence that my grandfather, as you know, had on me – but also on our family, he also had a special relationship with Veronika – and so I thought it was only appropriate to be able to name him, his middle name after my grandfather.’

“He lives on by his legacy and I know he is looking down and smiling at what happened yesterday.”

McVay said Jordan’s original due date was October 31, the same day John died in 2022. McVay admitted he didn’t sleep, but joked that the experience produced “good adrenaline.”

“But it will hit me at some point,” McVay said. “And I’d like to think I can do it, but I don’t have the stamina I used to.”
