Real Madrid’s offer for Antonio Rudiger “was the SMALLEST thing on the table,” reveals Saif Rubie

Real Madrid’s offer for Antonio Rudiger “was the SMALLEST on the table and an unnamed English side suggested almost double that”, reveals agent Saif Rubie – who claims Chelsea “made next to no effort to hold him”.

  • Antonio Rudiger joined Real Madrid this summer after five years at Chelsea
  • Saif Rubie has claimed the defender would have been interested in staying at the club
  • However, Chelsea have reportedly made “almost no effort” to keep the centre-back
  • Rubie also said the offer Real made for Rudiger was the “smallest” by half.

Football agent Saif Rubie has lashed out at Chelsea for making “no effort” to keep Antonio Rudiger even though the player “wants to stay”, claiming Real Madrid’s offer for the defender is the “smallest on the table”.

Thomas Tuchel’s side spent much of the summer looking for new centre-backs after Rudiger’s move to Los Blancos.

He left on a free transfer but the 29-year-old received a £10million signing fee.

According to Rubie, the fee could have been much higher had Chelsea accepted a different offer. He said on TalkSPORT: “Let me confirm, live on air, the deal with Real Madrid was the smallest deal that was offered.

“There was one club in England that almost doubled the volume and one club in Europe that doubled the volume.

“I won’t go into the details. Everyone knows that there were teams interested in this player. He was one of the best in the world.”

The agent, who worked as an intermediary in the Rudiger deal and previously gained infamy for his role in Bobby Duncan’s departure from Liverpool in 2019, also claimed that despite his stellar performances, Chelsea made “no effort” to keep the defender.

He continued: “Antonio Rudiger was one of the best, if not the best, defender in the world and the Premier League.

“Carlo Ancelotti wanted to bring him to Real Madrid. What’s the value of a prime center half in the game?’

The intermediary said that Real's offer for Rüdiger

The intermediary said Real’s offer for Rudiger was the ‘smallest’ offer Chelsea had received

“What if I told you that basically Chelsea and the old regime made next to no effort to keep the player?

“At the time he was very happy to stay and potentially captain the club. He was offered a contract that was half what Romelu Lukaku was earning.’

Since losing Ruediger, Chelsea have signed Wesley Fofana and Kalidou Koulibaly to bolster their defence.

They currently sit 6th in the Premier League after a somewhat fortunate win over West Ham on Saturday.
