Football referee allegedly beaten up in ugly incident on the pitch faces himself charges of assaulting a woman – as new video of the viral brawl emerges that ‘changes the narrative’

A football referee praised his bravery after suffering broken ribs and a broken jaw in an alleged on-field bash and has been charged with assaulting a woman.
Khodr Ahmad Yaghi, 45, was attacked shortly after the final whistle at an amateur football match at Padstow Park in south-west Sydney on 28 May.
His alleged assault on 25-year-old Adam Abdallah sparked widespread outrage, and supporters raised nearly $17,000 for his reconstructive surgery.
The outcry prompted a raft of new security measures to keep match officials safe.
But it has now emerged that Yaghi has been charged with assault and negligent aggravated assault after he allegedly assaulted a woman at midnight on March 3 while working as a bouncer at the Railway Hotel in Hornsby, in north Sydney.

Yaghi did not have to appear in court as he recently underwent reconstructive surgery on his jaw after it broke in three places.
Accordingly, he will stand trial in Hornsby Magistrates’ Court on June 7th Daily Telegraph.
This comes just a day after Yaghi’s alleged attacker, Abdallah, was released on bail after new video of the incident came to light, apparently showing the officer delivering the initial blow.
Footage shows the two men exchanging insults while other players and officials try to calm them down.
Abdallah then circles a group of players to confront Yaghi, who then seemingly throws the first punch before falling to the ground almost immediately, where he is attacked.
Then other players, spectators and match officials crowd together to separate the couple.
Abdallah was charged with assault and racketeering.
He has been in custody since May 1 but was released on bail unopposed in the New South Wales Supreme Court on Wednesday.

New footage of the alleged attack (shown in an earlier video) is longer than the “cut version” the media first reported. It seems to show Yaghi throwing the first punch

The prosecutor did not refuse to release amateur boxer Adam Abdallah (pictured) on bail based on a new video presented to the court on Wednesday
Prosecutors said they did not oppose his release as a new video of the incident has surfaced as Abdallah was initially denied release on bail.
“It slightly changes the narrative from the abridged clip that the media had,” said a lawyer representing the director of prosecutions.
The bail conditions require the amateur boxer to remain at his home at all times unless accompanied by his mother or his wife, who is six months pregnant.
Judge Mark Ierace said the terms effectively confine Abdallah to “house arrest.”
Because Abdallah has no criminal record save for one traffic count, Judge Ierace said that “the alleged conduct appears to be entirely out of character.”
