Republic of Ireland 3-2 Latvia: Chiedozie Ogbene sacked the winner after Brighton starlet Evan Ferguson scored his first international goal as the visitors came up short despite a miracle from Roberts Uldrikis

The Republic of Ireland won a thriller 3-2 against Latvia in Wednesday night’s friendly in Dublin.

Callum O’Dowda scored the first goal of the game in the sixth minute with a close-range shot into the top corner while William Smallbone provided the assist.

Brighton striker Evan Ferguson, 18, continued his recent impressive form with his first international goal ten minutes later.

The visitors fought back with a wonder goal from 30 meters from Roberts Uldrikis before Arturs Zijuzins made it 2-2 just before half-time.

Substitute Cheidozie Ogbene then put the hosts back ahead with his first touch of the game and they clung to victory.
