Richarlison clashed with Takehiro Tomiyasu on the touchline during Sunday’s tense north London derby
REVEALED: Richarlison clashed with Takehiro Tomiyasu on the touchline during the North London derby… with the Brazilian urging the Arsenal defender before later becoming involved in the post-match riot with Aaron Ramsdale
Richarlison and Takehiro Tomiyasu were spotted in a confrontation on the sidelines before one of them entered the fray for Arsenal in Sunday’s lively 2-0 win of the north London derby.
While both players warmed up on the touchline, Tomiyasu was seen stretching out an arm to stop the Brazilian from interfering with an Arsenal throw-in.
Tensions arose in the clash when Aaron Ramsdale was tackled by a fan and although Richarlison was only brought on in the second half he was the center of much of the controversy, including claims that Gabriel Martinelli made frequent appearances.
Takehiro Tomiyasu tried to hold off Richarlison before the Brazilian reacted angrily
In addition to his post-game argument with Aaron Ramsdale, Richarlison also had an altercation with Tomiyasu
Richarlison came on as a substitute in the 71st minute and, returning from injury, replaced right-back Matt Doherty but failed to get his side back in the game.
The Brazilian came on as a second-half substitute but failed to inspire a late comeback
A goalkeeper’s howl from Hugo Lloris and a nice long-range shot from captain Martin Ödegaard gave the Gunners an ultimately unassailable 2-0 lead at the break.
The 25-year-old didn’t take too kindly to Tomiyasu as he dished out Thomas Partey’s throw-in after raising his hands on the pitch in supplication and heading towards the Ghanaian to intervene in the first half.
However, the Brazilian can be seen swatting at the Japanese defender’s arm as his frustration gets the better of him and Tomiyasu decides not to react.
After finally coming onto the field in the latter stages of the second half, the forward was also involved in an altercation with Ramsdale.
When the England goalkeeper executed a goal kick in the final seconds of the game, he was caught laughing at Richarlison before sending the ball onto the pitch when the full-time whistle blew.
After a dominant display in the first half, Arsenal suffered a hostile attack in the second half
Richarlison then confronted the Arsenal stopper in front of Tottenham supporters, with footage showing him shoving Ramsdale in the face.
And when the keeper appeared to be kicked by a fan, a scuffle broke out involving most of the players from both sides and the Brazilian was forcibly removed from the action by a steward.
Spurs are set to face an FA and police inquiry into the aftermath of the game, which saw a fan kick Ramsdale with the club promising to ban the supporter from the stadium.
