The former Manchester United defender doesn’t think Partey could do a comparable job in the middle of Erik ten Hag’s team.

‘No no no. I don’t think Partey is good enough defensively to do what Casemiro is doing,” he said.

“I don’t think he has the effect of Man United defensively, he does more on the ball.”

However, Ferdinand hailed the Ghanaian for his outstanding performances this season, not least his impressive presence in Arsenal’s 2-0 win at Tottenham.

“He does more on the ball. He dictates the game for Arsenal,” he said.

“He actually plays passes that I didn’t know he had. His death was unbelievable.’

According to Opta, Casemiro has created more chances – 14 compared to 13 – and more tackles at 46, 12 more than Partey.

But the Arsenal star has captured the ball 116 times, 28 times more than Casemiro, and has higher passing accuracy and a higher rate of progressive passes.

Casemiro was a standout player for United under Erik ten Hag after making a £70million move from Real Madrid to Man United in the summer.

The 30-year-old Brazilian has recorded five assists and two goals in his 27 appearances for the Red Devils this season and has been a formidable influence in midfield.

Partey was also influential in Arsenal’s excellent first half of the season, with the Gunners winning 15 of their first 18 Premier League games.

Both Casemiro and Partey will have a chance to shine again as the sides meet for the second time this season as Arsenal look to extend their eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

But the Brazilian will miss the crunch clash at the Emirates if booked when United play Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Wednesday.

United have won nine straight games in all competitions and are just nine points behind the Gunners.

Arsenal will seek revenge at the Emirates, with their only league defeat this season coming in a 3-1 defeat by United at Old Trafford in September.
